Mount Kenya Trek – 7 Days Expedition (Best Acclimatization)

Your adventure begins with an early departure from Nairobi, heading towards the northwestern slopes of Mount Kenya. After registration at Sirimon Gate, you’ll start your trek through dense montane forest, home to wildlife such as monkeys and birds. As you ascend, the landscape gradually opens into moorland with giant lobelias and unique alpine vegetation. Arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon, where you’ll relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the days ahead.

After breakfast, continue trekking through the dramatic Mackinder’s Valley. The scenery becomes more rugged and expansive, with stunning views of the mountain’s peaks. You’ll pass streams, valleys, and rocky ridges while spotting high-altitude flora. The gradual ascent helps your body adapt to the altitude as you reach Shipton’s Camp, located beneath the towering peaks. Enjoy a warm meal and breathtaking sunset views.

This day is dedicated to acclimatization, crucial for a successful summit attempt. After breakfast, take a short hike to higher elevations and return to camp to help your body adjust. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, hydrating, and enjoying the serene alpine environment. Your guides will brief you on the upcoming summit climb.

Today’s trek takes you closer to the summit zone. The terrain becomes more rocky and alpine as you ascend slowly to Austrian Hut, located near the base of the main peaks. The air is thinner here, so a steady pace is essential. Upon arrival, rest early, have an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Wake up around midnight and begin your ascent under the stars. The climb is challenging but rewarding, as you reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise. Witness a spectacular sunrise over the African plains a truly unforgettable moment.

After celebrating your achievement, descend along the scenic Chogoria route, passing breathtaking views, glacial lakes, and valleys. Continue down to Mintos Camp for a well-deserved rest and overnight stay.

Descend through one of the most beautiful sections of Mount Kenya. The trail features waterfalls, lush vegetation, and dramatic cliffs. Enjoy a more relaxed trekking pace as oxygen levels increase. Arrive at Chogoria Bandas, where you can rest comfortably and reflect on your journey.

After breakfast, complete your descent and transfer back to Nairobi. Enjoy scenic views along the way as you return to the city, marking the end of your incredible Mount Kenya trekking adventure.
